Behavioural Assessment

Our assessment clinic offers behavioural assessments for children and adolescents.

A behavioural assessment measures a broad range of problem behaviours. It examines whether a child's behaviour falls outside the age-appropriate range. Behaviours measured may include attention problems, hyperactivity, aggression, anxiety, depression, social problems, somatic problems, and conduct problems.

A behavioural assessment is used to:

  • diagnose problem behaviours (e.g. attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and conduct disorder)

  • identify mood problems (e.g. anxiety and depression)

  • identify social problems

  • understand behaviours that may be impacting a child's functioning at home and school

  • help develop a behaviour management plan at school, and guide parenting strategies at home

Behavioural assessment tools:

  • Conners – Fourth Edition (Conners-4)

  • Conners Comprehensive Behaviour Rating Scales (Conners-CBRS)

Adaptive Behaviour Assessment

Psychology Assessment Services (PAS) conduct adaptive behaviour assessments.

An adaptive behaviour assessment compares a child’s skills in the areas of communication, social interaction, motor skills and self-care skills to the level of skill expected for their age.

An adaptive behaviour assessment is used to:

  • determine whether a child is showing age-appropriate development in skills needed to function in everyday life

  • support a diagnosis of intellectual disability, global developmental delay, and autism

Adaptive behaviour assessment tool:

  • Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales - Third Edition (Vineland-3)

A behavioural assessment or adaptive behaviour assessment are to be conducted with another assessment (e.g. cognitive assessment).
